Charley Hoffman keeps in touch with Jordan Spieth

Charley Hoffman moves himself into contention at The Masters after firing a second-round 68 at Augusta.

Charley Hoffman has fired a second round of 68 to keep in touch with Jordan Spieth at the top of the leaderboard at The Masters.

Hoffman, making only his second appearance at Augusta, started the day on five-under-par before birdies at the second and fifth holes saw him reach the turn in 34.

A run of three consecutive birdies at 12, 13 and 14 took the 38-year-old to 10-under-par for the tournament before he dropped a shot at the last to lose ground.

He remains five behind Spieth, who broke Raymond Floyd's record 36-hole score to reach 14-under, while the chasing pack contains former Augusta champion Mark O'Meara.

O'Meara, who won the green jacket in 1998, picked up five birdies and one bogey on his way to a round of 68 and will start Saturday 11 strokes behind Spieth.
