Preview: Bosnia-Herzegovina vs. Netherlands - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's UEFA Nations League clash between Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Netherlands, including team news and predicted lineups.

The Netherlands will be looking for their second victory in Group 1 of League A when they continue their 2020-21 UEFA Nations League campaign away to Bosnia-Herzegovina on Sunday evening.

Frank de Boer's side are currently second in the section with three points to show from their two matches, while Bosnia are bottom of the group with a single point from their two fixtures thus far.

Bosnia saw their hopes of qualifying for next summer's European Championships end on Thursday night when they lost to Northern Ireland on penalties in their semi-final playoff encounter.

The Dragons took a 13th-minute lead through Rade Krunic, but Niall McGinn levelled the scores in the second period before Northern Ireland won 4-3 on penalties.

Bosnia do not have time to dwell on the disappointing defeat, though, as they have UEFA Nations League games against the Netherlands and Poland to come before the end of the current international break.

Dusan Bajevic's side are currently bottom of Group 1 of League A, having picked up a point against Italy on September 4 before losing at home to Poland three days later.

The Netherlands, meanwhile, will enter this game off the back of a 1-0 friendly defeat to Mexico on Wednesday night, with De Boer taking charge of his first encounter since officially replacing Ronald Koeman.

It is not quite the start that De Boer would have had in mind, but the 50-year-old will be desperate for his side to bounce back against Bosnia, and Holland are in need of the points in terms of the group.

Oranje won their 2020-21 UEFA Nations League opener against Poland on September 4 but suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Italy three days later to leave them second in the section on three points.

Holland actually reached the final of the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League, ultimately losing 1-0 to Portugal in the final, while they were in impressive form during qualification for Euro 2020, winning six of their eight matches and suffering just one defeat to finish second in Group C behind Germany.

Team News

Bosnia did not pick up any fresh problems during the clash with Northern Ireland on Thursday, and it would not be a surprise to see Bajevic stick with the bulk of the starting XI for this game.

Edin Dzeko is comfortably the leading goalscorer in the squad with 59 and should again lead the line, with Krunic and Edin Visca also set to continue in attacking positions.

Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic should also feature in the middle of the park, while Amir Hadziahmetovic will be hoping to earn just his fourth cap for the national team.

As for the Netherlands, De Boer is expected to make changes from the side that started against Mexico, with Jasper Cillessen, Frenkie de Jong, Nathan Ake and Luuk de Jong potentially coming into the XI.

Memphis Depay started through the middle on Wednesday but could move to the left for this game, with Quincy Promes potentially being handed a start on the right.

Manchester United's Donny van de Beek should again feature in midfield, while Liverpool pair Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum are likely to keep their spots in the XI.

Bosnia-Herzegovina possible starting lineup:
Sehic; Cipetic, Ahmedhodzic, Sanicanin, Kolasinac; Pjanic, Hadziahmetovic, Cimirot; Krunic, Dzeko, Visca

Netherlands possible starting lineup:
Cillessen; Hateboer, De Vrij, Van Dijk, Ake; F De Jong, Van de Beek, Wijnaldum; Memphis, L De Jong, Promes

We say: Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-2 Netherlands

Thursday's match would have taken a lot of out of Bosnia, and it is going to be difficult for some of the players to raise themselves for this weekend's contest. The Netherlands have lost their last two matches, but we expect De Boer's side to pick up all three points at the conclusion of a tight game in Zenica.
