How Tottenham Hotspur could line up against Liverpool

Sports Mole looks at how Tottenham Hotspur could line up for their Premier League showdown with Liverpool on Thursday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur can leapfrog reigning champions Liverpool in the Premier League table when they welcome the Reds to the capital for Thursday's gargantuan showdown.

Jose Mourinho's men appeared to be heading for extra time against Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup, but three late goals from Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele (2) ensured that Spurs advanced to the fifth round with a 4-1 win over the Championship outfit on Monday.

The Lilywhites also took the spoils in their most recent Premier League meeting with Sheffield United in a 3-1 triumph, although they have lost their last six games against Liverpool in all competitions, including a 2-1 defeat at Anfield last month.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Tottenham could line up for the contest.

Mourinho made significant alterations for Monday's showdown with Wycombe, and the Portuguese manager could name as many as nine changes for this clash between two title outsiders.

Hugo Lloris will replace Joe Hart in goal, while Serge Aurier recovered from illness in time to make the bench in the FA Cup and should displace Japhet Tanganga with Matt Doherty an injury doubt.

Spurs have problems on the left-hand side of defence, though, as Sergio Reguilon has been ruled out for three weeks with a muscular problem while Ben Davies is doubtful, but Mourinho will hope to have the latter available.

Joe Rodon earned plenty of plaudits for his showing at Bramall Lane and could be rewarded with a start against a struggling Liverpool attack, with Eric Dier also set to come back in after he was rested against Wycombe.

Harry Winks is starting to stake his claim for a regular spot in Mourinho's XI but is likely to cede his place to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg here, while the resurgent Ndombele should occupy the number 10 role ahead of Erik Lamela.

Dele Alli would have been expected to play against Wycombe, but the England international suffered a tendon injury prior to the match, and he has now been ruled out of Thursday's visit of Liverpool.

Whether the playmaker would have made the squad if fully fit is another question entirely, and even though Gareth Bale has sent Mourinho a selection message with his goal on Monday, Steven Bergwijn should continue out wide.

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were both introduced off the bench in the FA Cup, and the prolific duo - who have combined for 13 of Tottenham's 33 league goals this term - will endeavour to add to their haul against a ravaged Liverpool defence.
