France take gold after defeating Russia in men's team epee final

France defeat Russia 45-32 to take gold in the men's team epee at the European Games in Baku.

France have taken the gold medal after defeating Russia in the men's team epee final at the European Games in Baku.

The nine-strong French team won 45-32 overall.

Italy defeated Switzerland for bronze 44-40 in a controversial third-place match.

Italy protested Switzerland's initial win, after 30 seconds of sudden death, after claiming that a full minute of sudden death fencing needed to be completed because the referee had put the bout into a "non-combative" situation. This happens when fencers are not trying hard enough to make hits and the fencing is too defensive. Italy were eventually awarded the win.

Hungary defeated Azerbaijan 45-37 in the battle for fifth.
