Sea shanty song set for impressive chart debut after TikTok success

Viral star Nathan Evans is on course for an impressive chart debut thanks to the success of his sea shanty track 'Wellerman'.

Nathan Evans is on course for the highest new entry of the week with his viral sea shanty hit 'Wellerman', according to midweek data from the Official Charts Company.

The track has gained popularity on TikTok - as part of a wave of sea shanty songs on the platform dubbed 'ShantyTok' - and is even being used by the social networking app in a new UK TV advert.

After the first 48 hours of sales, 'Wellerman' was at number four in the singles chart but it is now thought to be up to second place after three days.

Evans is extremely unlikely to top the charts this week, however, with Disney star Olivia Rodrigo's 'Drivers License' on course for a third week at number one - outstripping 'Wellerman' with three times as many sales.
