Olivia Rodrigo breaks chart record en route to UK number one single

Disney starlet Olivia Rodrigo breaks a streaming record as she storms to the UK number one spot with debut single 'Drivers License'.

Disney starlet Olivia Rodrigo has stormed to the top spot of the UK singles chart in record-breaking fashion.

The 17-year-old's debut single 'Drivers License' drew a colossal 10.9 million streams across the week, including a record 2.407 million in 24 hours on January 12 - breaking the 2.274 million achieved by Ed Sheeran's 'Shape Of You' in 2017.

Overall the track managed 95,000 chart sales across the week, according to the Official Charts Company, making it the biggest opening week since Zayn Malik's 'Pillowtalk' in February 2016.

Little Mix's 'Sweet Melody' drops down a place to two, with Sheeran's 'Afterglow' following at three, CJ's 'Whoopty' at four and Justin Bieber's 'Anyone' at five.

On the albums chart, Barry Gibb earns his first ever solo number one with Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers' Songbook Volume 1 - a collection of country re-interpretations of classic Bee Gees hits.

Elsewhere, Passenger opens at two with his 13th studio album Songs For The Drunk and Broken Hearted and Taylor Swift's Evermore drops to three.
