Gold will show a hitherto-unseen pilot episode of Blackadder later this month.

Gold will show the hitherto-unseen pilot episode of Blackadder later this month, it has been announced.

The much-loved classic comedy made its debut 40 years ago in 1983 and to mark the occasion, Gold is airing special Blackadder-themed programming all month.

A one off-show called Blackadder: The Lost Pilot will see Tony Robinson, who played Baldrick, investigate the story behind the non-broadcast 1982 pilot.

Along the way Robinson will speak to creator Richard Curtis and co-writer Ben Elton, and at the end of the episode the pilot will be shown for the first time.

"Blackadder holds a special place in the nation's heart and in mine too," said Robinson. "I'm delighted to be part of its 40th Birthday celebrations on Gold.

"It's been wonderful to journey back to where it all began and chat to some of the biggest names in comedy who made it all happen."

Blackadder: The Lost Pilot airs on Thursday, June 15 at 9pm on Gold.
