The BBC decides not to commission a second series of the Sheridan Smith-fronted dog primping show Pooch Perfect.

The BBC has confirmed that it will not be recommissioning dog makeover show Pooch Perfect for a second series.

The show, hosted by Sheridan Smith, featured the country's best dog groomers competing to give the most radical makeovers to different breeds of dog.

Pooch Perfect attracted some controversy when it aired, with animal welfare campaigners objecting to the use of coloured dyes during the doggy transformations.

Confirming the show's axe, a BBC spokesperson told The Mirror: "Pooch Perfect brought plenty of light relief to viewers during lockdown.

"Whilst the show won't be returning, we'd like to thank Sheridan, the judges, animal experts, groomers and pet owners plus Beyond Productions for bringing such joy when we needed it most."

The show, based on an Australian format, has also been adapted for the US with Rebel Wilson as host.
