BBC Three announces a second documentary on youth mental health with Roman Kemp.

Roman Kemp is to front a second documentary on the subject of youth mental health for BBC Three, it has been announced.

The presenter and radio DJ has become a fierce advocate for mental health issues over the last few years following the suicide of his best friend and radio producer Joe Lyons in 2020.

Kemp on went on to make an authored documentary, Our Silent Emergency, in a bid to understand more about the factors that lead young people to contemplate the unthinkable.

In the new programme, he will turn his attention to what can be done to help young people who are struggling by visiting schools, youth centres and treatment facilities before taking his findings to the Houses of Parliament.

"When I released Our Silent Emergency, the reaction blew me away," said Kemp. "I hope we helped a lot of people to check in on their friends and start conversations around mental health with those closest to them.

"Through this new documentary, I wanted to explore what else can be done to support those who are suffering, and who have indeed spoken out. They need to know we've got their backs.

"I've been incredibly lucky to meet some very brilliant people, and I'm so grateful to them for sharing their experiences with me. I hope this film helps move the conversation into action."

BBC Three controller Fiona Campbell added: "Roman is not only a champion for highlighting the key issues surrounding mental health for young people but he also strives to understand what happens beyond talking and this insightful and important film will see him explore what comes next."

The documentary is due to air this autumn on BBC Three and iPlayer.
