Graham Norton is named as the host of a new series of classic gameshow Wheel of Fortune.

Classic gameshow Wheel of Fortune is to make a comeback on ITV with Graham Norton as host, it has been announced.

The show features contestants spinning a wheel to earn themselves the opportunity to guess a phrase on the board, one letter at a time, hangman-style.

The original series ran between 1988 and 2001 as part of ITV's daytime schedule, with the likes of Nicky Campbell, Bradley Walsh and John Leslie among the hosts.

The new version with Norton has been earmarked for a primetime slot and will run to eight one-hour episodes, including two celebrity specials.

"I'm beyond excited to be bringing such an iconic American show to a new British audience," said Norton. "My first ever TV job was a game show on ITV so this feels like coming full circle. You might even call it a wheel!"

Katie Rawcliffe, ITV's head of entertainment commissioning, added: "We are thrilled to have the much-loved Graham Norton bringing this iconic game show to our viewers. Anything can happen on the spin of a wheel, it is going to be so much fun."

The show has been slated to air on ITV1 and ITVX in 2024.
