The shock twist involving Seb helps Coronation Street to top the Friday night ratings.

The shock death of Seb (Harry Visinoni) on last night's Coronation Street was a ratings draw for ITV, according to early figures.

The 8.30pm edition of the soap, which saw Seb lose his life after a horrific hate crime attack, pulled in 4.69m (26.9%) to rank as the top non-news programme of the day on any TV channel. The first episode at 7.30pm had brought in 4.61m (30.1%).

Emmerdale was second among the soaps for the night, averaging 4.07m (28.7%) for its 7pm episode.

EastEnders, which aired between Corrie episodes on BBC One at 8.05pm, had a disappointing 2.66m (17%) for an episode featuring the build-up to Callum and Ben's possible wedding.

Elsewhere on Friday, Channel 4's Gogglebox again won the 9pm hour with a solid 3.92m (21.7%).
