Timmy Mallett upset with 'Strictly' snub

TV legend Timmy Mallett reveals his disappointment at not being approached to take part in Strictly Come Dancing.

TV legend Timmy Mallett has revealed that he is keen to appear on Strictly Come Dancing but has not yet been asked despite possessing "fabulous moves".

The 55-year-old, who rose to fame in the 1980s and '90s with his wacky persona and signature mallet - known as 'Mallett's Mallet' - has been out of the limelight in recent years, with his most recent gig of note a panto production of Jack and the Beanstalk in Windsor in 2016.

Strictly returns for its 18th series on the BBC later this year and, in an interview with the Daily Star, Mallett revealed that he would love to be part of the celebrity lineup.

"I haven't been asked to do it, but I am a fantastic dancer. I have some fabulous moves," he said. "Mrs Mallett laughs at me, but I'm proud of what I can do on the dancefloor."

Mallett's career has also seen him find success as a singer, with his cover of 'Itsy Bitsy Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini' topping the UK charts in 1990.

Strictly is due to return for its 18th run in late September, although production may be delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
