The Office star Creed Bratton suggests that the cast could reunite in future for a Christmas special.

The Office star Creed Bratton has suggested that the show could return for a new one-off Christmas special.

The American adaptation of the BBC comedy ran for nine seasons on NBC, with Steve Carell starring in the first seven, before coming to an end in 2013.

In the last few years the show has gained a new legion of fans through streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon, leading to speculation that the show could return or be rebooted.

"Obviously as an actor, I love playing with those people, and we were a family. We loved each other," Bratton, who played a fictionalised version of himself on the series, told Comic Book.

"Of course, I would love to do it. I don't see it happening. I just went up a while back and shot this thing called Upload for [writer] Greg Daniels up in Vancouver, this sci-fi thing he's doing, and we were talking about it over dinner, and he said they keep approaching him. He's not into it, and if Greg's not into it, I don't think anyone else would want to be into it."

He continued: "I think [John] Krasinski (Jim) had the best idea. He said we should just shoot a Christmas special if we're going to do it. We get everybody together and shoot the Christmas special for fun. We'd love to do that."

The Office ranks as the number one show on Netflix in the US, although it is due to leave the service next year and switch to NBC's own service Peacock.
