The Muppet Show to join Disney+ next month

Disney announces that seasons one to five of Jim Henson classic The Muppet Show will be made available on Disney+ next month.

The Muppet Show is to launch on Disney+ next month, it has been announced.

The classic Jim Henson variety series was originally produced for the UK market and ran for five seasons between 1976 and 1981, making names of characters including Kermit The Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and The Swedish Chef.

The show was also noted for its big-name guest stars, with the likes of Elton John, Liberace, Sylvester Stallone, Gene Kelly and Diana Ross all appearing during its 120-episode run.

All five seasons will be made available for streaming on Disney+ starting February 19 in a move that will see seasons four and five released via home entertainment for the first time since their broadcast.

Kermit The Frog said: "It's going to be great to welcome back longtime fans, and to give a new generation of fans a chance to see how we got our start, how Miss Piggy became a star and so much more.

"Today, I'm proud to say: 'It's time to play the music, light the lights and meet the Muppets on Disney Plus tonight!' And as for Statler and Waldorf, the two old guys in the balcony, I can only add: 'Sorry, guys, but....here we go again.'"

Next month will also mark the launch of the new 'Star' brand on Disney+, which will see shows including Lost, 24, Desperate Housewives and The X-Files made available on the streamer.
