Kelly Clarkson to replace injured Simon Cowell on AGT

Kelly Clarkson is to stand in for Simon Cowell on the judging panel of this week's America's Got Talent.

Simon Cowell has drafted in Kelly Clarkson to stand in for him on America's Got Talent while he recovers from a serious back injury.

The 60-year-old broke his back over the weekend after falling off his new electric bike and is now recovering in hospital.

Having already been delayed by coronavirus, AGT starts its live stages on NBC this week but Cowell will not be fit enough to feature so original American Idol winner Clarkson will take his seat on the judging panel.

In a statement, she confirmed: "My friend, Simon Cowell, is doing better now but was in an accident and won't be able to make Tuesday and Wednesday's live shows for AGT.

"But no worries America, someone far wiser, cooler, and hotter is taking his seat! The unbelievably amazing Kelly Clarkson! You're welcome in advance!"

Cowell tweeted from his hospital bed late on Sunday to confirm that he is recovering well.
