Blue Peter names 39th presenter

Mwaka Mudenda is named as the 39th presenter on the long-running BBC kids show Blue Peter.

Mwaka Mudenda has been unveiled as Blue Peter's 39th presenter.

The 25-year-old, who was working as an assistant at BBC Sport when she was discovered, will make her debut on Thursday night's show on the CBBC Channel.

Mudenda will have a unique introduction to the show - the longest-running kids' programme in the world - as she co-presents the episode with regular hosts Lindsey, Richie and Henry the dog from her home during the coronavirus lockdown.

"There is only one word to describe being the new Blue Peter presenter and that is mind-blowing!" she said of her new role.

"Despite lockdown, I've felt so welcomed by the incredible behind-the-scenes team that help run and deliver such a wonderful show - and I already feel like a big part of the Blue Peter family.

"I'm so excited to begin my adventure, with all the fun challenges it has in store. The chance to be a part of such a well-loved programme that has such an inspiring and creative young audience is a real blessing."

Blue Peter airs Thursdays at 5.30pm on the CBBC Channel.
