Avatar to resume production in New Zealand next week

The four Avatar sequels will resume filming in New Zealand next week, producer Jon Landau confirms.

Filming of the new Avatar movies will recommence in New Zealand next week after a two-month shutdown due to the coronavirus crisis.

The runaway success of the original movie in 2009 saw James Cameron get the go-ahead to make four sequels, all of which are being made concurrently and will be released every two years from 2021 to 2027.

Like most productions around the world, Avatar was forced to shut down in March but can now pick up again after New Zealand's extremely successful efforts in containing the disease.

"Our #Avatar sets are ready - and we couldn't be more excited to be headed back to New Zealand next week," confirmed producer Jon Landau on Instagram, sharing a picture of two new vehicles being used in the films.

The first of the sequels is still on course for release on December 17, 2021 despite the production delays.
