Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga lead MTV VMA nominations
Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga bag nine nominations apiece at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards, to be held later this month.

Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga have each picked up nine nominations at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.

This year's event is going ahead as planned on August 30 in Brooklyn, New York, despite the coronavirus death toll continuing to rise in the US.

Grande and Gaga earn joint nominations for their chart-topping collaboration 'Rain On Me', which is up for awards including Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration and Best Pop.

The Weeknd and Billie Eilish each have six nods, while the likes of Lewis Capaldi, YUNGBLUD and Doja Cat will fight it out for Best New Artist.

Two new awards have been introduced specifically due to coronavirus - Best Music Video From Home and Best Quarantine Performance.

Other nominees include Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, BTS, Dua Lipa and Eminem.
