Tom Hanks to host Joe Biden inauguration concert

Tom Hanks will host a special event marking the start of Joe Biden's time as US President, with performances from Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato and Jon Bon Jovi.

Oscar winner Tom Hanks has been named as the host of a special event marking Joe Biden's inauguration as US President on Wednesday.

In an official swearing-in ceremony Biden will take up residence in the White House, with Kamala Harris as his Vice-President, as Donald Trump's time in office comes to an unceremonious end.

The inauguration itself will take place on Wednesday lunchtime, while in the evening, Hanks will preside over a 90-minute primetime TV special called Celebrating America.

The programme will feature performances from the likes of Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato and Jon Bon Jovi, with additional acts yet to be announced.

Yesterday Trump became the first President in history to be impeached twice and will now go on to face a trial in the Senate accused of inciting the violence that led to the US Capitol being stormed by protestors last week.
