Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis reveals that he is looking at the possibility of staging some kind of small-scale event in September.

Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has suggested that he may throw some kind of related event in September should the circumstances allow.

On Thursday it was confirmed that the festival has been cancelled for the second year in a row as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, with plans now afoot to stage the event in Summer 2022 instead.

This September marks 50 years since the first Glastonbury was held and, speaking to LBC, Eavis said that he is looking at ways to celebrate the occasion.

"I would like to do something in September," he said. "I would like to do something smaller somewhere around the anniversary date of when we started, which was the 18th of September in 1970, and I would like to consider possibly doing something around that time."

Asked if what he had in mind could involve big-name musical artists, he replied: "Yeah, but I do need to get reassurance from the ethics people and everything."

The regular Glastonbury festival normally has attendances in excess of 200,000 people.
