WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer talks about the decision to cast Evan Peters as "Pietro" in the miniseries.

WandaVision's Jac Schaeffer has explained the decision to cast Evan Peters in the role of Wanda's deceased brother Pietro in the series.

Pietro was played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the MCU and was killed off in Avengers: Age of Ultron - although in episode five of the Disney+ series, Pietro showed up at Wanda's front door.

However, in a shock twist, the character was instead played by Peters, who had played a version of the character in the X-Men franchise, suggesting that long-discussed rumours of a multiverse crossover was imminent.

"It took a while to figure out if it would be possible," Schaeffer told the New York Times. "It was late that it was finally confirmed that we could do it. But we were writing for it.

"Evan is such a chameleon in that way, that could play an amalgamation of [Full House]'s Uncle Jesse, [Family Ties]' Nick, and Joey from Friends. He could play those layers."

The character eventually came to be known by fans as Fietro - Fake Pietro - after it was revealed that he was a regular guy masquerading as Wanda's brother due to a spell cast by Agatha.
