Sam Ryder confirmed as UK's entrant for Eurovision 2022
Sam Ryder will represent the UK at this year's Eurovision with his song 'Space Man'.

TikTok star Sam Ryder will fly the flag for the UK at this year's Eurovision Song Contest, it has been announced.

The 31-year-old singer-songwriter is tasked with improving on last year's dismal performance, which saw James Newman finish last after collecting an unprecedented nil points from both the professional juries and the voting public.

Ryder, who has more than 12 million followers on TikTok, will perform his song 'Space Man' - a falsetto-laden ballad - at the final of the contest on May 14 in Turin.

"Having been a fan of Eurovision since I was a kid, I am so honoured to have been presented with the opportunity to sing at an event alongside some of Europe's most talented creatives, performers and songwriters," he said.

"I hope to sing my head off in a way the UK can be proud of, and to showcase a song I wrote with my friends last summer makes the whole experience even more special. See you in Turin legends!"

Ryder will play multiple gigs across the European continent in the coming weeks in order to boost the song's profile ahead of the contest.
