An Emmerdale star who has been on the soap since the age of five will reportedly be killed off in the near future.

Young Emmerdale actor Sam Hall will reportedly be killed off in a shock upcoming storyline.

The 20-year-old joined the cast of the long-running soap in the role of Samson Dingle in 2009, when he was just five years old.

The character - son of Sam Dingle (James Hooton) - has since been an ever-present, with his most recent major storyline seeing him becoming a reluctant father after a one-night stand with Amelia (Daisy Campbell).

According to The Sun, Dales producers recently informed Hall that Samson will be written out this year, a development which has allegedly angered other members of the cast, including older actors who have watched him develop since he was a child.

"Sam had a meeting with bosses earlier this month where they broke the news," a source told the newspaper.

"He has been left devastated. He's grown up with his on-screen Dingle clan and they are all very protective of him. Some of the cast even went to talk to bosses about their decision.

"As news of his axing swept through the building there were quite a lot of angry Dingles.

"The fact that they are planning on killing him off means there'll be no way back for him either. He's absolutely gutted."

ITV has yet to officially confirm Hall's departure.
