Terence Winter steps down as showrunner of The Batman TV spinoff

Terence Winter quits his role as showrunner of the new Gotham-set TV spinoff of The Batman due to "creative differences".

Terence Winter has exited his role as showrunner of the HBO Max spinoff from the upcoming The Batman movie.

The series will be based in the Gotham police department and take a closer look at the world of corruption seen in the film, which will start Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, veteran screenwriter Winter - known for shows such as Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos - has quit the project due to "creative differences" with The Batman's overlord Matt Reeves.

The newspaper says that "Winter's vision for the drama did not match what Reeves and other producers had in mind" so the decision was taken to find a new showrunner.

The news comes a day after Winter announced that he is developing an anthology series based on Dial M For Murder starring Alicia Vikander.
