Coronation Street star Tina O'Brien admits that she is unsure whether Sarah and Adam can get past her recent betrayal.

Coronation Street star Tina O'Brien has admitted that she does not know whether there is a happy future in store for her character Sarah and husband Adam (Sam Robertson).

In recent weeks Sarah has confessed to cheating on Adam with bad boy Damon (‎Ciaran Griffiths) - and in a further blow to their marriage, she has now discovered that she is pregnant and has no idea who the father is.

Adam has tried to get past Sarah's infidelity but is clearly struggling, and the latest twist could well be the last straw for the couple.

"I actually quite like the idea that maybe they can't be together," said O'Brien. "They should be together but now circumstance has damaged their relationship and it's hard to get that back, as much as they might want to.

"I like the throw back to Ken and Deirdre's relationship, which makes it really interesting.

"It will depend if the trust is eroded too much and how mature they can be about it or if they'll go their separate ways, but still maybe be there for each other because they can't just switch those feelings off."

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
