Channique Sterling-Brown says that her Coronation Street character Dee-Dee and boyfriend Joel have "long-term potential".

Coronation Street star Channique Sterling-Brown has predicted that her character Dee-Dee could get into a serious relationship with boyfriend Joel (Callum Lill).

Joel - a duty solicitor - made his Weatherfield debut in September and soon set his sights on lawyer Dee-Dee, eventually convincing her to go on a date with him.

Since then the pair have embarked on a relationship, with Joel even spending Christmas with her family - and he has been there to support her as the true extent of her dad Ed's (Trevor Michael Georges) gambling problems has come to light.

"I really think they do have long-term potential," said Sterling-Brown, who has just reached 18 months on the cobbles.

"The relationship is a really new thing for Dee-Dee and for her to have someone who she can rely on in this way, especially with everything happening with her family, she starts to see him in a new light as it's someone who's there to support her and actually have her back.

"Dee-Dee is usually everyone else's support system but to Joel, Dee-Dee is his priority and that means a lot to her. I definitely do think Dee-Dee and Joel could have a future together."

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
