Beverley Callard has insisted that she will not be returning to Coronation Street in the future - even to film a proper exit for Liz McDonald.
The 63-year-old had played the iconic character for more than 30 years before departing the soap quietly last summer, having announced her decision to quit in 2019.
Callard has since revealed that her low-key exit came after she had a hip operation that went badly wrong, although she vowed to return to Weatherfield to give Liz a proper send-off in the future.
Now she has appeared to backtrack on that stance, telling the Sunday Express that she is "not going to film an exit".
"I loved Coronation Street. I still do and I always will," she said.
"But sometimes it's just not your turn on the merry-go-round. It was a massive decision for me to make, but I believe I did it for the right reasons.
"I felt Liz had run her course. I'd hate to cheat any fans out there who were waiting and hoping for something amazing to happen to her. I felt like she'd lost her way."
She added: "Sadly you can't decide your own storylines and since I'm not going to film an exit, they could even kill me off off-screen.
"If they do I'll accept it with grace. I've thought long and hard about this and know that this time I've shut the door on Coronation Street forever."
After leaving the soap, Callard went on to take part in the most recent series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
