Sharon Osbourne will host a nightly show on the new channel TalkTV, it is announced.

Sharon Osbourne is to present her own daily show on TalkTV, the new news and discussion channel from Rupert Murdoch's News UK.

The station - due to launch in the coming weeks - has previously signed up Piers Morgan to host its flagship primetime programme, and now he will be joined in the lineup by good friend Osbourne.

The 69-year-old lost her job on US talkshow The Talk a year ago after defending Morgan at a time when he was coming under fire for his disparaging attitude towards Meghan Markle.

Now Osbourne will return as host of her own primetime show - aptly also named The Talk - in which a panel of five famous faces will debate the big issues of the day from news, politics, entertainment and sport.

"I'm excited to be working with News UK, the panel and my good friend Piers," she said. "Watch this space for some exciting and lively debates from us all."

Rebekah Brooks, chief executive of News UK, added: "Sharon has built a unique and hugely successful media career, combining strong views and opinion with a lot of warmth and fun.

"Her unbounding energy will make her show compelling viewing and we are delighted to give her a new home at TalkTV."

The launch date for TalkTV, which will be available on Freeview, Freesat, Sky and Virgin Media, is expected to be confirmed imminently.
