Guto Harri resigns from GB News amid row over taking the knee
GB News presenter Guto Harri quits the station following his suspension from work for taking the knee live on air.

Guto Harri has announced his resignation from GB News amid the furore over him taking the knee live on air.

The presenter made the gesture during a discussion about racism last week and days later found himself suspended from work in what the broadcaster described as "an unacceptable breach" of editorial standards.

In a resignation letter to chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos published by The Independent, Harri claimed that his superiors had prior knowledge of his intent to take the knee and questioned how his actions had warranted disciplinary action.

"Before I took the knee on air I discussed it with my producer, director, co-presenters and head of newsroom," he wrote.

"After I did it, GB News captured the moment and proactively cascaded it on social media.

"Two days later you told me you wanted me to take a break for the summer. You did not say you were briefing papers and issuing a statement that accused me of breaching your editorial standards.

"I asked you to change that on the night – pointing out it was defamatory. You ignored my texts and refused to take my calls.

"I now see that you've hired Nigel Farage who immediately declared in public that he will not be taking the knee.

"Please explain how that does not breach editorial standards but I did – so I can share it with my lawyers."

Farage's new show starts Monday night in the 7pm hour.
