Adam Boulton unhappy with Sky News colleagues over rule break?

Adam Boulton discusses the incident that led to Sky News colleagues Kay Burley and Beth Rigby being taken off the air this week.

Adam Boulton has hinted that he is unimpressed with the situation that led to Sky News colleagues Kay Burley and Beth Rigby being taken off air this week.

Burley is alleged to have broken coronavirus rules by holding a small gathering at a private members' club to celebrate her 60th birthday - with the 10 people in attendance split across two tables.

A number of Burley's workmates, including political editor Beth Rigby, are said to have been present at various points during the evening, while there have also been allegations that members from multiple households mixed indoors later that night.

Boulton - Sky News's editor-at-large - has worked with Burley for 31 years, with the two holding the distinction of having been part of the channel since its launch in 1989, and raised eyebrows this week when he retweeted a post branding Burley and co "morons".

Talking to The Guardian about the situation, Bolton said: "I retweet things because I think they're of public interest, and certainly my feed has reflected a lot of people who are very concerned about the credibility of Sky News, and that I think is the important issue: the credibility of our journalism.

"My view is that Sky has worked very hard during the whole COVID crisis and has taken a very clear line about public safety, and obviously something like this perhaps undermines [the importance of] that."

He went on to describe Burley as a "remarkable" journalist, adding: "Whatever happens next is not my decision and obviously it's not up to me to criticise colleagues."

Burley has been suspended by Sky for the rest of the year while an investigation takes place.
