Simon Cowell "definitely" returning for Britain's Got Talent in 2021

Simon Cowell reportedly indicates to ITV that he will "definitely" be back on the judging panel of Britain's Got Talent in 2021.

Simon Cowell has reportedly "set the wheels in motion" to return as head judge of Britain's Got Talent next year.

The 61-year-old was forced to sit out the final stages of this year's series after breaking his back at his home in Malibu over the summer and was replaced by former winner Ashley Banjo.

The audition stage of the next series begins filming in January and according to The Sun, Cowell has now indicated to ITV that he will be fit enough to take back his place on the judging panel.

"Simon was gutted at having to sit out the show this year," a source told the newspaper. "But he's been totally focused on getting better and will definitely be back on the panel.

"He's come on in leaps and bounds recently, thanks to letting his body heal, a healthy diet and some California sun. He's also enjoyed being surrounded by his family.

"But he loves his job and is raring to go, especially as BGT offers so much joy and light entertainment in dark times.

"The panel are all really excited to have him back, though they thought Ashley did a great job and he'll definitely perform on the show again next year with Diversity."

ITV had been due to pre-record a Christmas special of the show earlier this month but it was called off at the last minute due to a coronavirus scare on set - and Media Mole understands that filming of the episode has not yet been rescheduled.
