Van Gerwen powers to World Grand Prix title

Michael van Gerwen has won his third World Grand Prix title with a 5-2 victory over Gary Anderson.

The Dutchman lost a thrilling final with Robert Thornton 12 months ago but he ensured that there would not be disappointment in Dublin for a second successive year with a stunning performance on Saturday night.

Anderson barely got a look-in during the early stages as Van Gerwen ran rampant in taking six of the opening seven legs and he soon extended his advantage to 3-0.

The Scot reduced the deficit in the fourth set but Van Gerwen was still averaging just under 109 and responding . . .
