Spartak Moscow punished by Russian FA following fan trouble

Spartak Moscow forced to play next two home games behind closed doors following crowd trouble against Shinnik Yaroslavl.

The Russian Football Association have ordered Spartak Moscow to play their next two home fixtures behind closed doors following fan violence.

During a Russian Cup clash against Shinnik Yaroslavl this week, a hoard of Spartak supporters tried to charge onto the pitch brandishing flares.

Pictures also emerged of a small group carrying a swastika flag, while reports claimed that supporters threw seats at police officers, who were forced to use water cannons in an attempt to calm the disorder.

According to Sky Sports News, the Russian governing body has responded by ordering the club to play two fixtures behind closed doors.

This is the second time that Russian clubs have been in trouble for off-the-pitch incidents in recent days following UEFA's decision to give CSKA Moscow a partial stadium ban for racist chanting from their fans.
