Nicknamed 'The Vulture', Emilio Butragueno was every bit as important to Real Madrid's success in the 1980s and 1990s as the goalscorer extraordinaire Hugo Sanchez.

Madrid had failed to win the league title in five years when Butragueno was promoted to the senior team, but he helped restore the club to their former glories and between 1985 and 1990 Los Blancos won five successive La Liga crowns.

Butragueno was still at the club when they won their next title in 1994-95 - albeit in a limited role following the emergence of a teenage Raul - and he also won two Copas del Rey and two successive UEFA Cups during his time at the Bernabeu.

The attacker was third in the voting for the Ballon d'Or in 1986 and 1987 and scooped the Pichichi trophy in 1990-91, eventually leaving the club having scored 165 goals in 454 appearances.
