Norwich City travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on opening day

Relegated Norwich City will travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on the opening day of the Championship, which begins on Saturday, August 9.

Norwich City have been handed an away fixture at Wolverhampton Wanderers on the opening day of the new Championship season.

The Canaries suffered relegation from the Premier League last month, and Neil Adams's outfit will face a difficult start to the campaign as they begin their attempt to earn an instant return to the top flight.

Cardiff City and Fulham will also travel on August 9, with the Bluebirds making the trip to Blackburn Rovers and the Cottagers starting at Portman Road against Ipswich Town.

Last year's Championship playoff runners-up Derby County host Rotherham United, with East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest also playing at home on the first weekend against Blackpool.

The first meeting between Derby and Forest takes place on September 13, with the return fixture being played at the iPro Stadium on January 17.

The first East Anglian derby between Norwich and Ipswich will be contested on Saturday, August 23, with Carrow Road hosting the second meeting on Saturday, February 28.

The stand-out encounter on the final day of the season sees Norwich go head-to-head with Fulham with both sides potentially being involved in the race for promotion.
