Chelsea could sign Kai Havertz next week if Bayer Leverkusen are knocked out of the Europa League, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea could reportedly secure a deal for Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz next week.

The Germany international continues to be strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, although talk of a move has quietened since Leverkusen resumed their Europa League campaign.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the German club are unlikely to sanction an exit until their European season is finished, which might be against Inter Milan on Monday night.

Romano hints that a deal could therefore be wrapped up next week, with Chelsea hopeful that €80m (£72m) will be enough to convince the Bundesliga giants to sell their star player.

Bayern Munich have also been strongly linked with the attacker, but the German champions would allegedly rather wait until next summer to sign him, while Manchester United are seemingly concentrating their efforts on Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho.

The 21-year-old has been in impressive form for Leverkusen during the 2019-20 campaign, scoring 17 times and contributing nine assists in all competitions.
