Manchester United captain Harry Maguire faces a second night behind bars following his arrest on the Greek island of Mykonos for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is facing a second night behind bars following his arrest on the Greek island of Mykonos on Thursday.

The centre-back was apprehended by police after allegedly assaulting three officers alongside two other men, and an unnamed member of the trio is reported to have tried bribing police to stop the trial from being completed.

Maguire is now expected to spend another night in jail after the three men were transferred to Syros, but Maguire's lawyer has expressed his belief that the Man Utd captain will be released without charge.

"The process is ongoing. Maguire is in great condition. We'll be able to say more tomorrow morning," Maguire's lawyer Constantine Darivas told Greek media.

"He denies the allegations and I am fully convinced that tomorrow he will be released without any charges."

The trio are scheduled to face a prosecutor at 11am local time (9am BST) on Saturday morning.
