British property tycoon Nick Candy is still interested in buying Chelsea from owner Roman Abramovich, according to his spokesperson.

A spokesperson for Nick Candy says that the British property tycoon is still interested in buying Chelsea.

Earlier this week, Candy was one of multiple parties to have registered an interest in the Premier League outfit, only for developments on Thursday to potentially throw a spanner in the works.

Owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the government due to his links to Russia president Vladimir Putin, who has orchestrated a military invasion of Ukraine.

Despite any prospective buyers now having to discuss terms with the government, it has been revealed that Candy remains keen to buy his boyhood club.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: "We are examining the details of yesterday's announcement and we are still interested in making a bid.

"Clearly this is a time of great uncertainty for all Chelsea fans. In our view, no one is the owner of a football club - you are the custodian of it for the fans and the community."

Earlier on Friday, Digital and Technology Minister Chris Philp encouraged any interested parties to open discussions with the government, reiterating that Abramovich cannot financially benefit from any sale.
