Report: Diego Simeone tops Everton managerial shortlist

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is reportedly Everton owner Farhad Moshiri's number-one choice to take over at Goodison Park on a permanent basis.

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has reportedly placed Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone at the top of his four-man managerial shortlist to replace Ronald Koeman.

The Toffees have yet to name a permanent successor to Koeman, who was sacked on October 24 after the Toffees made their third-worst start to a Premier League campaign.

A number of names have been linked to the job, most prominently former England boss Sam Allardyce, but Sky Sports News suggests that Simeone is the man Everton are targeting.

Atletico are currently at somewhat of a crossroads, sitting fourth in La Liga and on the brink of exiting the Champions League at the group stage.

The report suggests that Simeone is unlikely to walk out of Los Rojiblancos during the 2017-18 season, however, especially after signing a new two-year contract in September.

Should the Merseyside outfit miss out on their main man, the same report claims that they will then work their way down the list of three other possible candidates.
