Paris Saint-Germain reportedly failed with a January approach to sign 17-year-old Fenerbahce wonderkid Arda Guler.

Paris Saint-Germain failed with an approach to sign Fenerbahce sensation Arda Guler in January, according to a report.

Regarded as one of Europe's top teenage prospects, 17-year-old Guler is already making a name for himself at senior level after breaking into the Fenerbahce first team.

Guler already has six goals and seven assists to show from 33 appearances for Fenerbahce, including three goals and two assists from 17 outings in the 2022-23 season.

The versatile youngster can operate on either wing, in central midfield, as a number 10 or as a second striker, and clubs across Europe have unsurprisingly been alerted to his breakthrough.

The one-cap Turkey international is under contract with Fenerbahce until 2025 - having penned an extension last March - and the Turkish giants are therefore under no immediate pressure to sell.

However, both Arsenal and Liverpool are said to be keeping tabs on Guler's development, and Foot Mercato claims that PSG made an approach for his services over the winter.

The report claims that PSG football advisor Luis Campos has been following Guler for a while, and he also tried and failed to bring him to the French capital last summer.

Campos reignited talks with Guler's representatives and Fenerbahce in the January window, but PSG were knocked back again, with the Turkish side insisting that they are relying on the teenage midfielder for the next few years.

PSG welcomed a host of new faces to their midfield ranks in the summer transfer window, securing the services of Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz, Renato Sanches and Carlos Soler.

Following their significant summer outlay, the January transfer period was a much quieter affair for the Ligue 1 champions, who did not sign a single new player last month.

Christophe Galtier's side allowed Pablo Sarabia and Ander Herrera to leave the club permanently, while also loaning out second-choice goalkeeper Keylor Navas to Nottingham Forest.

Les Parisiens were on the verge of signing Chelsea's Hakim Ziyech on loan, but a deadline-day move fell through after the Blues allegedly sent over the wrong documents and also sent them late.

A computer system crash on the LFP side was also to blame, and PSG unsuccessfully appealed to the governing body, who ultimately refused to sanction Ziyech's switch to the Parc des Princes.

Galtier's side are believed to have agreed a deal to sign Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar on a free transfer at the end of the season, but they failed to convince the Nerazzurri to let the Slovakian leave in January.

PSG can temporarily go eight points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table with victory over Toulouse on Saturday, where Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Sergio Ramos will all miss out due to injury.
