Everton 'willing to match Arsene Wenger salary'

Everton majority stakeholder Farhad Moshiri is reportedly willing to match Arsene Wenger's £8m-a-year Arsenal wages in order to entice him to Goodison Park.

Everton are reportedly willing to match Arsene Wenger's Arsenal wages in order to entice him to Goodison Park this summer.

Wenger will step down as manager of the Gunners after 22 years at the end of the season, but the Frenchman has ruled out the possibility of retirement and yesterday revealed that he has received a number of offers.

Everton were one of the early favourites to appoint the 68-year-old when he initially made his announcement, despite current boss Sam Allardyce having steered the club away from danger and to a top-half finish.

A number of Everton supporters have voiced their displeasure at Allardyce's style of football, though, and majority stakeholder Farhad Moshiri is understood to be considering a change this summer as a result.

The Mirror reports that Moshiri would be willing to match the £8m-per-season salary Wenger currently earns at Arsenal in a bid to beat other interested parties to his signature.

Wenger's final two matches as Arsenal boss will come against Leicester City this evening and Huddersfield Town on Sunday.
