ITV to show US version of The Masked Singer

ITV is to air the American version of The Masked Singer this summer in a weekend slot.

ITV have reportedly agreed a deal to broadcast the US version of The Masked Singer this summer.

The UK version was a sleeper ratings hit earlier this year, prompting ITV to commission a second series for this autumn - although the coronavirus pandemic has put those plans on hold.

According to The Sun, the broadcaster has now picked up the US version of the show and plans to air it in a weekend slot over the summer.

"Huge shows on ITV have been pulled or put on ice because of the pandemic so bosses are having a nightmare trying to work out how to fill them," a source told the newspaper.

"The Masked Singer was a ratings hit for them here so they've decided to air the American version every weekend over the summer.

"To them it was an obvious choice because it was so popular and the formula is identical. Obviously some of the stars might not be recognisable to [viewers] but it's still a great show."

Judges on the US version include Ken Jeong, who also appears on the UK show, Nicole Scherzinger, actress Jenny McCarthy and 'Blurred Lines' singer Robin Thicke.
