Steve Allen exits LBC after 44 years
Steve Allen leaves his role on LBC after 44 years with immediate effect.

Steve Allen has confirmed his exit from LBC after 44 years with immediate effect.

The 68-year-old started working on the London-based talk radio station in 1979 and was a long-time host of the early breakfast show, which airs from 4am to 7am.

Over the weekend Allen announced that he had left LBC, however, with his final show having already aired on February 17.

He tweeted: "Some news from me, firstly thanks for all your questions. My contract with LBC is up shortly and following discussions , I'm stepping down from LBC today I'd like to thank you all for listening over the last 44 years it's been an honour and a privilege."

A spokesperson for LBC owner Global said: "Steve Allen's contract with LBC is up shortly and, following discussions with him, Steve is stepping down from LBC today.

"We thank him for his enormous contribution to commercial radio over the past 44 years, making him one of the longest-serving radio broadcasters in the UK."

No reason for Allen's departure has yet been given, although his exit comes 15 months on from his controversial comments about Tilly Ramsay in which he described the youngster as "a chubby little thing".
