Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan are reportedly contacted about returning to Neighbours for its remaining episodes.

Neighbours producers are reportedly hoping to tempt Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan back to the soap if it comes to an end this summer.

As things stand, filming is set to end on June 10 after Channel 5 pulled its majority funding - effectively condemning the show to end unless a new UK broadcaster steps forward in very short order.

Producers are preparing storylines to bring the soap to a close after 37 years this summer, however, and according to The Sun, Minogue and Donovan have been contacted about potential returns for the swansong.

The pair played iconic couple Scott and Charlene, whose wedding was watched by an astonishing 20 million viewers when it was broadcast in the UK in November 1988.

"One thing's for sure, Neighbours is going out with a bang," a source told the newspaper. "It's been an emotional week for everyone. There have been a lot of tears but the cast and crew are more determined than ever to finish on a real high.

"Bosses have spoken to Jason who has agreed in theory to return. Kylie has always been a huge supporter of the show - they're just waiting to hear back."

Ian Smith has already agreed to reprise his role as Harold Bishop and will start filming new scenes next month.
