This Morning presenter Alison Hammond is reportedly on the verge of being announced as the new co-host of The Great British Bake Off.

Late last year Matt Lucas announced his decision to leave the show due to other work commitments, leaving Channel 4 in need of a new on-screen partner for Noel Fielding.

According to The Mirror, producers have now settled on Hammond, 48 - also co-host of this year's BAFTA Film Awards - and plan to make an official announcement within the next few days.

"Alison is a great choice," a show source told the newspaper. "She will bring warmth and humour to the tent in spades. We're laughing just thinking about it."

Filming on the new series is due to begin within a matter of weeks ahead of an expected August start on Channel 4.
