Piers Morgan accused of taking Antigua holiday over Christmas

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan is alleged to have spent time in Antigua over the Christmas period.

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has been accused of taking a trip to Antigua over the Christmas holidays.

The 55-year-old was an outspoken critic of the government's original intent to allow three households to mix over a five-day period at Christmas in a temporary relaxation of coronavirus rules, although those plans were abandoned following the discovery of a new fast-moving variant.

"What's frustrating to me is we know the vaccine cavalry is coming," Morgan said on the show in November. "We're talking maybe six months or so before we start really rolling out mass vaccines. That's not that long away.

"If we in the meantime just ignore the rules, if we get relaxed about everything, so many people will die unnecessarily before the cavalry arrives."

According to political insider website Guido Fawkes, Morgan is alleged to have taken a trip to the Jumby Island resort on a private island off Antigua over the festive period.

The publication claims that the presenter took a flight out of the UK before tier four restrictions were imposed on London, which was then in tier three, while his home in Sussex was in tier two.

At the time, government advice specified that travel outside of an area should be avoided unless deemed to be necessary, while the Foreign Office reclassified travel to Antigua and Barbuda as "restricted" on December 18.

As there was no outright ban on travel out of the UK, if the reports are correct then Morgan will still have acted within the bounds of the law.

Morgan has yet to comment on the allegations.
