Disney+ expands its UK offering from one package to three subscription options, including a new, reduced-cost tier.

Disney+ has officially launched its reduced-cost subscription offering in the UK.

The streaming service, which offers access to the archives from Disney, Marvel Universe, Star Wars, FOX, Pixar and more, was previously available at a single price point of £7.99 a month or £79.90 a year.

The changes - introduced on Wednesday (November 1) - mean that subscribers can now choose a plan priced at £4.99 a month if they are prepared to watch non-skippable adverts.

The £7.99-a-month/£79.90-a-year 'Standard' option remains, offering ad-free access to content in HD quality with two concurrent streams and downloads on 10 devices.

Newly-introduced is a 'Premium' package, available for £10.99 monthly or £109.90 annually, which offers the benefits of Standard plus UHD quality programming and four concurrent streams.

Luke Bradley Jones, the general manager of Disney+ in the EMEA, said: "Today's launch represents a significant milestone for Disney+ in the UK, offering customers the flexibility to select a plan that suits their needs and budget.

"All of our customers can enjoy a wide range collection of award-winning original TV series and blockbuster movies, including FX's The Bear, Elemental, and Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, along with fan favourites like Season 2 of Marvel Studios' Loki and the latest series of The Simpsons and Grey's Anatomy."

According to the latest figures, around 7.5 million UK households are thought to subscribe to Disney+, compared to around 17 million for Netflix and 13 million for Amazon's Prime Video.
